Medians / Islands
Medians / islands are constructed of concrete curbs and asphalt and are used to separate and direct traffic. Traffic generally needs to slow to maneuver around the islands.
Speed Humps
Speed humps raise the roadways up to three inches above the normal roadway surface for a short distance. Caution must be used not to divert traffic to adjacent streets.
Traffic Chokers
Traffic chokers are a physical constriction in the roadway width to create the image of an impediment to through traffic. Because of the narrowing of the roadway, motorists drive slower.
Traffic Circles / Roundabouts
Traffic circles / roundabouts are circular islands, constructed of concrete curbs and landscaping, usually located at the intersection of busy streets. They force traffic to slow down to safely negotiate the roadway.
